Careers at Ceres

Pioneering spirit

Ceres Holographics is pioneering digital volume holography and film optics to deliver high-performance, high-quality transparent display visualization solutions. We work with some of the world’s leading companies in the automotive and transportation sectors.

Scotland is a great place to live and work. Our office is close to Edinburgh, renowned for its heritage, culture, and festivals. We are also within easy reach of Glasgow and the rest of the central belt. Our world-famous countryside, beaches, rivers, and glens are also all nearby.

We are looking for engineering, R&D, and operations talent in our new Livingston headquarters. If you are interested in joining the team, please check out our openings below. If there is not a role that fits your specific interests, you are welcome to submit your resume via general openings.

Principal Optical Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a Principal Optical Engineer to drive our cutting-edge holographic capability to the next level. This includes developing:

  • Novel holographic products, including AR-HUD and Transparent Displays
  • Models of system and component level performance
  • Holographic mastering, replication, and test capability

Ceres has developed unique technology to design, print, replicate and test holograms for a range of industries, including automotive, trucking, agricultural, construction and consumer electronics. We have developed sophisticated optical machines with high-speed dynamic control systems. These provide a route to manufacture large format, optically flexible holographic optical elements, at scale. Ceres is currently developing its core product range, driven by strong customer interest from global customers.

We are currently seeking a strong candidate to drive this capability to the next level. They will further develop our existing product offering and optical automation toolset. The candidate will work closely with our expert engineering and operations teams to accomplish this. They will also deal with suppliers, contractors, and customers where appropriate.

This is a challenging role. Understanding our products and the underlying fundamental physics, and then turning this into robust products is the heart of the role. The Principal Optical Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and be based at our newly developed site in Livingston, Scotland.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate is likely to be degree qualified in a technical subject, such as Physics, Laser Engineering, or a similar technical discipline. It is anticipated that they will hold a higher degree such as a PhD in a relevant field. We anticipate that the applicant will have at least 10 years’ experience in a high-tech work environment, ideally within a growing optical company. Other relevant industrial experience will be considered, including automotive.

Experience with any of the following subjects is directly relevant:

  • Optical product development and manufacture
  • In-depth optical modelling, including custom library development
  • Optical prototyping and test in an optics lab
  • Lasers, projectors, SLMs, DMDs, cameras
  • Optical machine development
  • Programming and instrument interfacing

Additional experience in other fields, such as electronics, process development or manufacturing engineering will be considered favourably.
We are looking for a candidate who can be autonomous, with the maturity to take ownership for significant strategic projects and drive them towards success. At the same time, there is a need to be an effective team member, working simultaneously on more than one project and interacting with world-leading technical authorities.
There is considerable scope for enhancement and growth in this role, as the company grows over the next short period.

Benefits Package

An attractive package is available for the right candidate, including a competitive salary, contributory pension scheme, healthcare and share options. Relocation expenses may also be available where appropriate.

Ceres currently operates a hybrid work model. This is subject to ongoing review and revision. We anticipate that the candidate will spend most of their time on site at Livingston, with the balance at home.

Automation Engineer (All levels)

Role Summary

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to help drive our cutting-edge capability to the next level. Our custom digital toolset is under continual expansion and improvement. This includes, for example, developing the automation elements of:

  • Next generation holographic Digital Master Printers
  • Roll-to-Roll holographic replication equipment
  • Automated Test Equipment
  • Associated software infrastructure

We are currently seeking a strong candidate to help develop this capability to the next level. They will further develop our existing automation toolset, and play a key role in developing next generation tools and digital infrastructure. The candidate will work closely with our expert engineering and operations teams to accomplish this. They will also deal with suppliers, contractors, and customers where appropriate.

This is a rewarding role for a candidate who enjoys living in a software and digital environment, and who understands the importance of developing that environment to the benefit of the business. They will naturally enjoy team collaboration, with the reward of seeing their output being directly used by the wider team. This is an opportunity to help shape our digital roadmap.

The Automation Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering, and be based at our newly developed site in Livingston, Scotland.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate is likely to be degree qualified in a technical subject, such as Computer Science or another technical field. This is not mandatory; demonstrable relevant experience will be favourably considered.

We will consider all levels for this role, with the applicant able to demonstrate the relevant depth of experience and impact. We anticipate that the applicant will have experience in a high-tech work environment, ideally within a growing company.

Experience with any of the following subjects is directly relevant:

  • Programming, interfacing, software control and release
  • Control systems, including motion, robotics, cameras, and sensors
  • Database development and deployment
  • Machine development, deployment, and support

Additional experience in other fields, such as electronics, process development or manufacturing engineering will be considered very favourably.

Ideally, we are looking for a candidate who can be autonomous, with the maturity to take ownership for projects and move them towards success. At the same time, there is a need to be an effective team member, sometimes working simultaneously on more than one project with the team.

There is scope for enhancement and growth in this role, as the company grows.

Benefits Package

An attractive package is available for the right candidate, including a competitive salary, contributory pension scheme, bonus scheme and healthcare. Relocation expenses may also be available where appropriate.

We anticipate that the candidate will be based on site in Livingston, to facilitate effective team working.
